The world-famous QE2 (Queen Elizabeth 2) cruise-liner finally arrived at her new home of Dubai on Wednesday evening, as it received a royal welcome.
The 70,000 tonne ship was accompanied by a flotilla of boats, led by the Royal Navy Frigate along with the world’s largest yacht, My Dubai, owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and vice-president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and a fly past by Emirates airline double-decker Airbus A380. On board the liner, were over 1000 passengers from all over the world as they arrived into Dubai.
“Nakheel is proud to be the custodian of such an historic treasure. Dubai , with its wealth of maritime heritage, is providing the warmest of welcomes and a new homecoming for this icon of the seas,” said Sultan Bin Ahmed Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai World.

The QE2’s final departure from British shores has been marked by solemnity as well as pomp and ceremony.
