This French line was created in the second half of the 1800s and saw its best period from 1871 to 1914, with ships measuring from 100 to 150 meters long. One of their ships from later years was Le Champollion, which started life as a three funneled ship in 1924. In 1951 she sported a new look with only one funnel, but sadly in December 1952 she would be wrecked on a reef off Beirut, becoming a total loss.
