Mark McGwire being embraced by Cardinals, but he shouldnt be – Jeff Pearlman – SI.com   Leave a comment

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/jeff_pearlman/10/30/mcgwire/index.html

McGwire was a fraud. His amazing feat wasn’t nearly so amazing. His courage and strength were mirages. His greatness, well, very artificial.

Worst of all, however, McGwire was a baseball thief.

I still remember when Joe Buck interviewed this guy and asked him to take a deep breath before hearing the same question again: “can you break the record?”
Of course he knew he could. How could he go on performing such a big fraud is, well, heck with you “Big” Mc.

Dodgers Uniform Numbers History – ACME Dodgers   Leave a comment

http://www.acmewebpages.com/dodgers/numbers.htm

Still needs to update, but it’s interesting. Following the Dodgers on and off since the middle 80s, I’ve seen numbers being re-cycled among players. Ethier now has Nomo’s number, Blake has Gibson’s and Karros’ number, Martin uses Hershiser’s number. Interesting no one has used Fernando’s number since he left.

From the page: “I’d like to serve as Scully’s stat man for a night game in L.A., helping baseball’s Mozart compose another symphony.”

Wouldn’t that be every baseball fan’s dream.
